the little things image by Infinity Rain (Creative Commons)
I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately. I think all the time away from home is affecting me. I mean, everything is really quite good in my life but the last few days have been pretty bad. I don’t know… I just feel down, tired - but not like I need sleep. Not well, but not really sick. It has to be the hotel-life. That’s all I can pinpoint.
This post is about how the down time made me realize the little things that can spark a smile. Scientifically, smiling makes you feel better and although, I’m still struggling, a response from a blogger and her community really got the corners of the mouth going today.
So, the background info: I sometimes give free passes to our service (MediaZone, in case you’re new to this tumblr). We’re fairly reserved as far as this is concerned but when reaching out to bloggers - it’s a win-win-win. I never ask for a write-up or anything, and sometimes we get one and sometimes we don’t. What almost always happens, however; is a new relationship begins between me and the blogger. And, someone is happy for getting to watch their favorite sport online for free.
Today, I received the best response ever. First, the blogger, Sheila at Black Tennis Pro, greeted my offer of free passes for her readers with enthusiasm. Awesome! After a little back and forth, she mentioned she would post our banner (double-awesome) with a post about the passes. The triple-awesome came today - one comment after another, her readers explained how the free pass made their WEEK!
Making someone else’s week, makes my week. And a smile is born. Pay it forward, people. That’s the social media paradigm. Now, excuse me, I have more passes to give away - I really need to get happy for the weekend!
